Privacy
What is, and is not, recorded
Because the subject is sensitive, privacy is part of the design. This page is written plainly and avoids promises it cannot keep.
In one paragraph
My Dark Book is a static website. It has no user accounts, sets no advertising cookies, loads no advertising trackers, and stores no record of what you read. No analytics script is loaded at all. The few things stored in your own browser are listed below, and you can clear them at any time.
Data flows
| Feature | What happens | Stored where |
|---|---|---|
| Age confirmation | One boolean preference so the notice is not repeated. | Your browser (localStorage key mdb.adult-confirmed) |
| Comparison shortlist | Up to three product slugs so the tray survives navigation. | Your browser (localStorage key mdb.compare) |
| Find Your Chapter | Answers are scored in your browser and discarded on reload. | Nowhere. Never sent, never stored. |
| Search | Matching runs in your browser against a bundled index. | Nowhere. |
| Page-turn direction | A one-word hint so the next chapter animates the right way. | Your browser (sessionStorage), cleared immediately. |
| Newsletter | Your address and a separate consent flag are sent to the mailing provider only when you submit the form. | The mailing provider, once configured. Nothing is kept on this site. |
| Outbound links | Amazon and other external links open in a new tab with a strict referrer policy, so the address of the page you were reading is not passed along. | Not applicable. |
| Analytics | None loaded. | Nowhere. |
Quick Exit
The Quick Exit control on every page, and pressing Escape three times quickly, replaces the current page with https://www.weather.com/. It gets the site off your screen fast. It does not clear your browser history, does not disguise the site, and does not guarantee that nobody who has access to your device can see where you have been. Use your browser’s private mode and history controls for that.
Hosting
Like every website, the server that delivers these pages receives your IP address and standard request headers in order to respond, and may keep ordinary access logs. The site adds nothing to that.
What this page does not claim
This site does not claim to be completely anonymous, untraceable or “100% private”. It claims to collect as little as a website practically can, and to be honest about the rest.
